This fall we’ll begin our study with the Book of Ruth from the Old Testament. Considered one of the most beautiful pieces of literature in the bible, the Book of Ruth is hardly a simple story. In just four short chapters, there’s calamity, exile, gender issues, scandal, and sexualized stereotypes. Read on! Through her words and actions, the protagonist, Ruth, leads us to think beyond borders and the arbitrary lines we draw around “the stranger.” Supplementary text: Borders and Belonging: The Book of Ruth: A Story for our Times by Padraig O’Tuama and Glenn Jordan, (2021).
