Theologian in Residence, Prof. Peter S. Hawkins, Prof. Emeritus of Religion and Literature, Yale Divinity School
Peter will be our preacher during our worship service, beginning at 10:00 AM. Following the service, Peter will lead an adult forum, beginning at 11:30 in the Fellowship Hall. It will consist of a conversation about Dante’s Divine Commedia, and specifically the Inferno.
Peter’s list of accolades is long, but suffice to say that for nearly 50 years, Peter has walked students through Dante’s Commedia, unlocking its wisdom and power for contemporary readers. Peter is a master teacher and scholar, but he’s also a gifted preacher. He was invited to give the Beecher Lectures on preaching at Yale in 2008, the preeminent lecture series on preaching in the United States. He is the author of numerous books, including Dante’s Testaments, Dante: A Brief History, Undiscovered Country (his Beecher lectures), and a series of edited volumes entitled Listening for God: Contemporary Literature and the Life of Faith.
