It was a pleasure to welcome Father Jacques de Foiard-Brown to the pulpit this
morning. Jacques comes to us from the island of Mauritius off the coast of southern Africa,
where he has lived in a hermitage for almost forty years, while serving the communities that
surround it. He spent part of his boyhood in Zimbabwe, after which he was trained at UC,
Davis as an agronomist, and then at Cambridge as a developmental economist. He received
God’s call one day and entered the Benedictine monastery at Solesmes, France, where he
remained for seven years. In addition to his work on Mauritius, Jacques leads spiritual
retreats and conferences in France and elsewhere around the world. We are privileged to
have him with us this morning at FCCOL.
