Refugees & Immigrants

We have a long history of advocacy and allyship with those who are navigating the complexities of the immigration system, rooted in our deeply held belief that everyone is deserving of safety, belonging, protection, and love. 

In our community of faith, we take seriously the biblical call to affirm the dignity and worth of every person, to show hospitality, and care for the most vulnerable among us. Our Refugee Resettlement Committee and Immigration Assistance Committee are at the forefront of helping us follow that call.

We lean into love through the operation of a refugee-resettlement project that helps families fleeing dangerous conditions in their homelands and finds them housing, support services, jobs and schools in Connecticut. To date, those of us working on Refugee Resettlement have helped families from Puerto Rico, Syria, Afghanistan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Our Immigration Assistance Committee (IAC) lives into love by helping immigrant families find free or low-cost legal aid before and during deportation proceedings. They try to make sure that despite language or education barriers, our immigrant neighbors understand their rights under federal and state law, particularly when their families include members who are U.S. citizens. 

At times, we have offered sanctuary to individuals and families in need as a way to help slow the deportation procedure down, give the overburdened appeals process a chance to work, and provide immigration authorities with an opportunity to understand the injustices and flaws of the law as it is being applied.
